List Building- 5 Reasons Why it

You may have heard someone mention it is a good idea to build a list. But you may not realize just how important it is to build a list. Or, you may feel a bit daunted at the prospect of list building and communicating with your list on a regular basis.

But it doesn’t have to be difficult at all to build a list and communicate to your subscribers on a regular basis.

Here are 5 reasons to encourage you to build a list to make money online…

Reason 1 You are probably driving traffic straight to your website or blog. Most people won’t buy from you on the first visit. In fact, a typical conversion rate (buyers per 100 visits) is 2%. That means that 98 out of every 100 people to your site is leaving without buying anything. That’s a lot of wasted traffic.

Market testing says it takes around 7 exposures for someone to buy from you. Imagine trying to get someone to buy from you on the first visit knowing this as well!

A list helps you solve both these problems by getting a higher conversion rate by giving something away for free to get someone to join your list. And by being able to follow up with them as many times as you need for free to get the sale.

Reason 2 You can automate the process of following up with 1000s of people on your list quite easily with an autoresponder. Imagine trying to follow up with all the people you have on your list by phone or sending emails manually. It would take forever.

If you have an autoresponder set up, you can keep in regular touch with people on your list easily and you can automate the whole follow up process. Even if you have 100,000 people on your list.

Reason 3 You are actually building a real asset for your online business. This is something even the biggest changes at Google can’t touch. Since you know your potential customers by name and they are safely in your database. So, even if your traffic topped tomorrow (which can happen) you know that it won’t affect your business too much.

Reason 4 Once you build your list, you can email it whenever you want for free. You can recommend your products or services at any time for free. This means you don’t have to worry about putting the time and effort into a traffic generation campaign or worry about high advertising costs.

Reason 5 You can build a much closer relationship with your customers by email. You can build a rapport and trust and show that you are someone that knows what they are talking about. This is the best way to increase sales. Since people are more likely to buy from someone they trust.

SEO is the missing ingredient that will turn your website, whether new or old, into an Internet force.

What exactly is search engine optimization? SEO is the trade of making your website optimized to be found easily and ranked highly by the search engines. Additionally, you’ll begin to build a reputation with Internet users and with the search engines themselves as a trusted warehouse of information. People will begin turning to you for answers and you’ll become an expert in your field.

Another important component to SEO is building incoming links to your site. Incoming links are like a sign post for search engines looking for some kind of validation about which site to choose to display highly. The more incoming links to your website, the more sign posts there are saying, “This site is trustworthy, reputable and useful.” Every link is kind of like a vote or a recommendation that proves the merits of your site and your company. Therefore the more the better and finding an effective way to build valid links to your site is crucial to SEO.

Of course, SEO is a constantly changing and evolving field. You can’t just write a few articles today or find a few links and assume that you are going to be making a huge difference. Quality and quantity are both important, as is staying up to date with the ever changing rules of the game. Your website’s search engine results and the traffic you see need to be constantly worked for, and tactics need to be changed to correspond to changing requirements or preferences.

Search engine optimization can be confusing, time killing and unnecessarily aggravating and costly. If you’re ready to improve the quality of your website while seeing improved traffic and sales, you can greatly benefit from experienced professionals who will take care of the entire process for you.

5 Search Engine Optimization Tips For Affiliates

Search engine optimization is really no different for an affiliate website than it is for a website where you sell your own products and services.

If you build a content website, search engine optimization is definitely a consideration because it can bring you lots of targeted traffic, and SEO isn’t really hard to do. Concentrate on the basics, and you’ll get plenty of targeted traffic from the search engines.

Here are five steps you can take to optimize your affiliate site for the search engines.

          1. Choose the right keywords.

Although it might seem pretty cool to get ranked really high for two word keyword phrases for a keyword search term, the traffic won’t be as targeted.

General keyword search terms won’t really help you reach those you are trying to reach. If you want to get the most out of your search engine optimization campaign, then use keywords with at least 3 to 4 words. These keywords are more targeted and will get you more targeted traffic.

          2. Build backlinks.

Backlinks are an easy way to raise your rankings in the search engines. The more backlinks you have pointing back to your site, the higher your site will rank.

Keep in mind though that the sites you link to must be relevant to your site. It’s OK to link to general directories. The most relevant links come from sites that complement yours.

For example: if you own a gardening site, and you’re trying to link to advertising sites, you’re wasting your time.

          3. Submit to major search engines.

There’s a lot of debate in the search engine community on whether or not you should submit to the major search engines: Google, Yahoo, and MSN, or just wait and let them find you.

It depends on whether or not you want to start getting your site indexed in hours or wait months to be found.

The key is to create a sitemap. Submit your sitemap to the major search engines, and they’ll start indexing your site. You still want to do the other techniques, like backlinks, but once you submit your sitemap, you really don’t have to worry about submitting again. Check to make sure your sitemap is error free. Google will tell you. If you have errors, fix them. After that, indexing is pretty automatic.

          4. Write content.

Content for an affiliate site is slightly different than for a site where you offer your own products. With an affiliate site, you not only want to write articles on your topic, you want to write product reviews.

Give honest reviews of the products you are offering. Show how they solve a problem. Give as much information as possible to help the buyer make a decision.

Other forms of content to consider are videos, audios, a blog, and a FAQ.

          5. Add dynamic content.

Dynamic content updates on your site automatically. Usually it is in the form of IFrames, Javascript or RSS Feeds.

If you want dynamic content that is search engine friendly though, stick with RSS feeds. Many content management systems now allow you to add the feeds, and these systems handle the display. If your website doesn’t handle feeds, there are plenty of free scripts available to display feeds for you.

Search engine optimization doesn’t have to be difficult. Stick to “White Hat” techniques (techniques the search engines accept), and you can rank well in the search engines. You’ll also get targeted traffic.
